Tagesausflug nach Nikko: Natur, Weltkulturerbe und heiße Quellen

Nikko liegt nur einige wenige Bahnstunden von Tokyo entfernt – auch auf einem Tagesausflug kann man dort so manches entdecken.

I only experienced snow in Tokyo once and we were immediately given the rest of the day off! I thought it was overly dramatic for a couple of centimeters of snow that were gone the next day... But apparently it is rare and reason enough to stop public transportation, so our company was worried we'd be stuck there and not get home.🤷🏻‍♀️

My trip to Ise will always be one of my favorite memories. Not only did I instantly fall in love with the area, I also met really nice people at the hostel I was staying at and we spent every evening together going out to dinner or having chitchat over gyoza in the common room. Unfortunately, we didn't stay in touch for long after that...

Ever since I was a little elementary school student, my family spent the summer holidays by the sea in Germany. Naturally, I still love the sea and feel relaxed and free there.

My favorite place from my trip was Futami Okitama-jinja. There are many frogs around the shrine grounds (very cute, there are even frogs on top of other frogs!) and of course the wedded rocks, Meoto Iwa. Each year their tie is renewed in a ceremony. Many couples come here to wish for luck in their relationship and even singles can pray to find a partner.

One of the cutest places I have been to was this dog "café" in Shibuya. I liked the experience so much that I actually went twice!
It is not a real café though, you cannot get any food or drinks, it's just a place to pet dogs and play with them.🐶

I felt that the dogs were looked after well and the place was very clean with an area for the dogs to retreat from the trouble. They were incredibly curious, whenever a new person was about to step into the playpen, they ran up to the gate to check it out. And then the little guy on the second picture fell asleep on my lap! Our time was up way to fast...😢

Wagashi, traditional Japanese sweets, come in all shapes and colors! Even the beloved mochi are a kind of Wagashi. I had these two variants of black sugar in 2019 with a former coworker as dessert after a delicious and very filling meal.😋

The most obvious piece of Japanese history is housing! You may find older buildings like this one sprinkled around nearly every city when you explore a bit off the major sights. Some cities, like Kyoto or Kanazawa are famous for their traditional neighborhoods.🏠
Speaking from experience, if your hostel is in a house like this, insulation can be very poor and sometimes there isn't even air conditioning, so it can get really cold in winter or hot in summer.😅

What makes a moment memorable for you?
While I don't really remember where in Kyoto this was, I still remember the excitement when I saw the light shining through openings and creating this glowing effect. From the outside, the temple seemed like any other, but the inside was beautifully illuminated by natural light. There were also several green spots and a surprisingly big garden!

This is already the third Tokyo street views shot I share in this challenge, but the city just never fails to excite me!💓
This picture was taken in Harajuku, a district best known for its extravagant fashion. It is also always really crowded there, especially on weekends, because it is very popular for going shopping.
Another thing you must try in Harajuku is the rainbow cotton candy, each colour actually tastes different!🙃

I'm so sorry, this isn't even in Japan, I encountered this lovely cat at Longhua Temple in Shanghai, China in 2019🐱
Apparently, other cats live there as well, because you can find more under the hashtag #龙华寺的猫 🙀
